From the CASEM project in Tulear, Madagascar, we want to launch a new musical proposal made up of CASEM participants and expatriate collaborators. This group will be on tour in Europe (France, Spain and Switzerland) during the months of April and May 2021, so we need to define as soon as possible something as important as the name of the band and we want you to support us with this task.
In order to have a more defined idea about what this new musical proposal consists of and to be able to decide with some more criteria, we give you some more information.
COMPONENTES, la nueva agrupación la compondrán 12 artistas:
1 Artistic Direction and Collaborating Musician. Kilema: A member of a large family, Clément Randrianantoandro (Tuléar, Madagascar,1960) grew up among stringed instruments and African rhythms. Today, this world ambassador of Madagascar continues to bring his music, culture, art and the essence of his country to all the people who see his show, because «Kilema is not just music, Kilema is a concept».
2 solo voices: Madio Volangary and Harris: Born on March 17, 1992, this young Malagasy artist excelled as a singer at the age of 16, as a soloist with the Malagasy Gospel choir. When he joined the youth group, Harris was living at the Sejafito Centre for blind children in Tulear, in the south of Madagascar. There he received basic care, as his family lived in the rural area, and his situation was one of extreme poverty, so they could not take care of his needs. In addition to blindness, our young musician lives with a genetic disease that is difficult to diagnose, which affects his understanding, his speech, his health,… But Harris has been able to overcome his health problems, and has found through music a way of artistic expression that connects him to the world. His musical quality is exceptional, and his voice surprises us in almost any language, and any rhythm; international pop, Malagasy songs, reggae, gospel,…
7 choristers from the Malagasy Gospel: Madagascar. Year 2005. Some girls from a children’s center meet regularly to do what they love most: sing. They have prodigious voices that only their immediate surroundings can enjoy. In 2007, Agua de Coco decided to work on turning this dream into a project. The result is the Malagasy Gospel choir: a project that is oriented around music but that, above all, allows these girls to escape from a situation of social exclusion and improve their own well-being..
1 pianist, Mamy: Self-taught pianist; Mamy dares to play any instrument thanks to her privileged ear. She was born in Tulear, Madagascar, on May 25, 1988, and lived during her childhood and adolescence at the Sejafito center for blind children, an inseparable companion of Harris. Like Harris, Mamy is from a rural area and his family had great difficulty in coping with his needs. His lack of vision has not prevented him from growing as a musician. From a very young age he excelled as a pianist, and he also mastered the Kabotsy (a traditional Malagasy stringed instrument) and the guitar. In addition to being a great instrumentalist, his voice continues to stand out in the Malagasy Gospel choir, and alongside Harris in his unique show.
1 collaborating artist: During the tour we will have several collaborators who will accompany the group on the different stages.
Furthermore, this project is:
ART PROMOTION: It collects the rhythms and sounds of multiple artists who come together to take the culture of Madagascar further and make it known on European stages.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: Several of the members of the group are visually or hearing impaired but that does not prevent them from continuing to work towards their dreams, Harris’ prodigious voice and Mamy’s imposing piano break down the barriers of limitations by bringing the audience closer to their abilities.
DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION: This project is part of a larger development cooperation project in Madagascar; the project of the Centre for Socio-Educational and Musical Reception (CASEM) in Tulear, in the south of Madagascar, which aims to train young people from the disadvantaged neighborhoods of Tulear in different artistic disciplines, giving them a healthy and quality education and leisure.
AWARENESS: The lyrics and music take us to the reality of children in Madagascar, making the audience aware of the difficulties faced by Malagasy children: child exploitation, pregnancy and early marriage…
We hope that with all this information it will be easier for you to decide on the name of the next CASEM musical project. Here you can indicate the name option that you find most interesting.
